I am outraged. The Council are planning to increase the cost of a resident parking permit from £24 to £25. If you're thinking that's not too bad, it is only part of it. The rural Tories are also planning to introduce a brand new £10 charge for a visitors permit. If you need to purchase both the combined charge for a resident and visitors parking permit from £24 a year to £35 a year. That's 50% increase!
Of course Tory portfolio holder has been quick to point out in the press that increases in fees and charges are in line with inflation.
Either the cabinet member for finance has tried to mislead the public or perhaps there is a unique economy just for the urban areas of the town where inflation is higher, although our cemetries, shuttle bus and more seem to have the same issue.
The Lib Dems will try to sort this out, it may be the the Tories, from the countryside where car parking is free, didn't know what a visitors permit was and decided to charge for it so someone would tell them. But Probably thought they would impose this stealth tax on town centre residents and hope no one noticed until it was too late.
