Liberal Democrats have always believed that education is the engine of social mobility, now we are making it happen.
The Government released the final Pupil Premium figures for every English local authority, constituency and school. I am delighted that every school this year will receive an extra £488 for each child on free school meals they have on their roll.
Schools in Basingstoke are getting an extra £969000 from the Pupil Premium to improve the education. For too long schools have been criticised by inspectors for serving communities with the most disadvantaged children. The pupil premium will help those schools by funding the support the neediest children need without having to take resources away from the brightest.
This is a real milestone for the Liberal Democrats. The Pupil Premium is a policy we devised and campaigned for, and put at the heart of our Coalition negotiations. Now it is a reality making a difference to the schools serving Eastrop children.
The amount of the premium is set to increase in future years, this year our local schools will be getting;
Costello College of Technology £37,576
Fairfields Primary £21,472
King's Furlong Infant School and Nursery £20,496
Kings Furlong Junior School £21,472
Rucstall Primary School £15,616
Cranbourne Enterprise College £45,872
