I've Signed up to 10:10
At the most recent Council meeting, Lib Dems, Paula Baker and John Shaw asked the Council to join the other 100 councils of all political colours and sign up to the climate change campaign 10:10.
The idea is simple. You simply pledge to reduce your carbon emissions by 10% during 2010. Even climate change sceptics would be tempted to sign up as saving the planet usually means saving money!
Sadly despite all political parties claiming to be keen to tackle climate change, the Conservative Councillors voted against signing the Council up.
Not to be defeated, I have signed up myself. I already have energy saving light bulbs and the shower has replaced the bath and I recycle everything I can.
My mission this year is to stop the children leaving lights on and stop using the stand by button on the TV and over filling the kettle.
There are lots of ideas on the site and I would encourage anyone who has not yet done so to visit the site and sign up.

Open Democracy
As your local councillor, I attend several committee meetings, where ideas and policies are discussed. Recommendations are made by the committee to the cabinet who may from time to time amend them before they are sent to full Council and adopted as policy.
Full Council meetings would not make great telly! And are often not reported by the press, but to keep you informed I have posted how I voted on the main topics last night and why.

Free Gym for all?
.
Like childrens play areas, the equipment
lasts for many years.
For some joining the gym is often to expensive or to intimidating. Many of us don't have the time to get value from formal membership. These outdoor gyms neatly fill that gap. And for that reason I want one (or maybe two) in Eastrop.
